Thursday, 3rd December

Dear Parents,

We will be opening our doors next week and gradually the school will be as it should be, full of children. This is a reminder that your child needs to bring in all the necessary equipment. This includes:

text books,

notebooks,

pencils,

pens,

rubbers,

sharpener,

ruler (30 cm),

a pair of scissors,

coloured pencils,

felt-tipped pens (markers)

stick glue.

Please make sure that your child has all these items from the beginning as they cannot borrow from anyone else. Please remember to give a snack and a drink to your child.

Thank you.

Sunday, 29th November

Dear Parents,

The decision has been made to open our school. This has to be done with strict precautions and for this we need your cooperation.

We will open on Sunday, 6th December ONLY for Reception and Year 6. The children will have their temperature taken as they arrive at school and will wash their hands at the newly installed sinks outside. Please note that anyone with a high temperature will not be allowed into the school. Also any child with a cold or cough will not be allowed into the school. They, and any other family members, will be sent home. The children will then make their way, in single file, to their classroom. The desks in the classroom are positioned at least 1 m away from each other. On the first day, your child must bring in ALL the tools necessary for school. This means that all the books must come into school, both text books and notebooks, plus pencils, rulers, rubbers etc. Please note that these will all have to stay in school. Also sharing of pencils and other equipment is strictly forbidden, so please make sure that your child has enough pencils etc. to last.

During the breaks, your child will need a snack. Wherever possible, please put the snack in a disposable container. Any lunch boxes which come into school will be left outside of the classroom and sanitised before and after every break. We advise you to mark the lunch containers with your child’s name to avoid any confusion. Please note that the canteen will not be open. Water is available and reusable bottles are the best solution.

These routines will be continued as other classes join the school. On Wednesday, 9th December Years 2 and 4 will return to school. On Sunday, 13th December Years 1 and 3 will return and Year 5 on 15th December.

The decision has been made that the children do not need to wear masks. If you would prefer your child to wear a mask, please help him/her to practise putting it on and taking it off and supply a number of masks for each day. Although we have hand sanitiser, we do appreciate each of the children having their own.

Please be aware that all staff will wear masks when in close contact with the children. This is for their own safety as well as yours.

Home time for the Infants will be at 1.40, and for the Juniors at 2.20. At home time Mr Ahmed and Mr Marray will be at the gate. Please tell them the name of your child and the class, and someone will bring your child to the gate.

If you need to speak with Mrs Omeash or your child’s teacher for any reason, you must previously make an appointment by phone. No-one will be allowed in the school without one. In this way, we will reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus.

We look forward to welcoming the children back to school, and continuing their education safely. We thank you once again for your continued support and cooperation, especially during these difficult times.

Yours sincerely,

Valerie Turner

11th November 2020

Dear Parents,

As we prepare for opening the school again, it has come to my attention that a number of you have not yet paid the first payment of the fees. This must be paid by 19th November 2020, otherwise we will assume that you do not wish for your child to continue his/her education with us.

Yours sincerely,

Valerie Turner

20th September 2020

Dear Parents,

The first day of school is over and generally it was a success. Thank you for passing on your enthusiasm to your children, who participated positively and seemed pleased to be back at school, even in this way. There were some problems with the server, but these are being looked into and will be fixed as soon as possible.

Please remember that this is new for all of us and there will be difficulties but as long as we are all willing to have patience and work together, we will overcome the difficulties and succeed.

Thank you,

Valerie Turner

Wednesday, 16th September 2020

Dear Parents,

During the summer, the staff of our school have been busy preparing the school and themselves for the new academic year, in whatever form that would take. Unfortunately we have not been granted permission to open the school and therefore, in order to ensure that your children continue their education during these difficult times, we have made the decision to start the term on Sunday, 20th September with online lessons.

We ask that you download the ‘Zoom’ programme and use the individual teacher’s code for your child to attend the lessons each day.

This year each child will need to buy both notebooks and textbooks. These are available from the school office. Please ensure that your child has them for the start of the lessons.

I remind you that the COVID-19 School Safety Protocol is in place. Please remember to wash your hands, wear a face mask and observe social distancing. The virus has changed the way of living all over the world. Following the rules will help us all to stay safe and healthy.

The timetable for each class will be published soon.

Once again, I thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support.

Sincerely,

Valerie Turner

22nd August 2020

Dear Parents,

I hope you are enjoying the summer break and staying safe.

I would like to inform you that the school calendar for the new academic year is on the school website for all to see. The school will be open only when granted permission by the Ministries of Health and Education. If the children are not permitted to attend school physically, we will be giving online lessons. Information about this will be available nearer the time.

I would also like to tell you that, in coordination with the BES, as of now we are implementing the COVID-19 School Safety Protocol, which is strictly implemented without any exception to any visitor passing the School Gate (Teachers, Students, Parents). Taking the temperature at the entrance, washing your hands, wearing the mask in public areas and maintaining the social distance, is the new way we'll be living at school. Your cooperation will help keep us all safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Valerie Turner

4th April 2020

Dear Parents,

These are difficult times and we thank you for your patience. Work will be available very soon. In the meantime, please have a look at these two videos, which will be of interest to you and your children.

18th March 2020

Dear Parents,

As a precautionary measure the Ministry of Education has ordered all educational institutes to close until 28th March. In accordance with this ruling, our school has closed. We have moved the week of Spring Break to this time in order to cause as little disruption as possible to our school year.

Next week, the school will remain closed for the students, but the staff will be working to ensure that your child continue to be educated. You will be informed exactly how on Sunday, 22nd March.

We thank yo for your continued support, understanding and cooperation.

In the meantime, stay home and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Valerie Turner

On behalf of the Board of Governors and staff, I welcome you to the website of the British School of Benghazi.

The British School of Benghazi is pleased to offer a British style education from Nursery to Year 6. The school has been in operation since 1958 and is well-known for its reliability and stability. We work closely with the Benghazi European School which provides a British Secondary education. This gives families the opportunity for their children to complete their secondary education here in Benghazi. Our school uses the Edexcel programme as a foundation of its curriculum.

Our school is staffed with dedicated, caring teachers who strive to deliver the best education possible. One will find in each classroom a warm, caring environment where students are encouraged to work to their own potential with a challenging and interesting curriculum. Student successes are acknowledged and celebrated. Within this setting, trust and respect is developed between teachers and students.

The school’s philosophy is reflected in its motto: respect, responsibility, reliability. Through motivating activities in the classroom and school-wide celebrations, we learn to respect and understand different cultures and traditions. It is our belief that by respecting others, students can learn to be successful citizens contributing to our global community.

We give all students every opportunity to become responsible members of our school both personally and socially. Through personal responsibility, students develop a sense of independence, persistence and flexibility. Social responsibility is important for the success of each student as they progress through school and become global citizens.

All students are encouraged to understand the importance of being reliable. Students find that reliability develops trustworthiness between themselves and others, leading to a sense of pride in their accomplishments and personal happiness.

Please feel free to browse our website to discover more of what we have to offer. If you need more information, contact us via the phone numbers and email addresses provided. If you are in Benghazi, please stop by the school and have a visit. You are assured of a warm welcome by both teachers and students. We look forward to meeting you.
